The young mayor of Dobersberg, Martin Kößner, has had an eventful year – and not just because of the Corona crisis. He took over the office in July 2020 after the surprising resignation of his predecessor Franz Traxler.
More time for family in the first lockdown
“In the first lockdown, I really appreciated the time with my family. I was happy to be able to spend these weeks with my wife and children, ”says Martin Kößner, describing the situation at the beginning of Corona. “With the sudden takeover of the mayor’s office, there were of course many additional tasks, which reduced the time spent with the family.”
Church work difficult due to lack of social contacts
The work in the community is currently difficult because there is a lack of personal contacts. “You can’t just say you meet quickly and talk to each other over a glass of wine or beer,” says Kößner. “The feedback that you otherwise get from the restaurant is completely missing this year. In some years the Christmas celebrations became too much for you, this year you would have been happy if one could have taken place. “
The financial problems of the municipalities are already known that arise from the crisis. That is why it is difficult to implement the planned projects because a lot of money is lacking and has to be financed through loans. “Fortunately, there is a new aid package from the federal government for next year, where we may get some financial resources again and the community will remain liquid,” reports Kößner. “I think that, despite everything, we have moved a lot and got things moving in the community this year. There is also good cooperation, all applications are discussed with the other parties and thus supported. “
Building land expansion is a big topic for next year. Intensive work is being done here and we hope to have a result in the next few months.
Wish: More social life and meetings again
“Of course I wish that we can meet again more easily this year and that social life takes place again. You also want to be able to do more privately again. Go somewhere for a few days with the family and relax. I don’t need to travel long distances, it’s enough for me if I can move around Austria normally and enjoy life, ”says Martin Kößner. “However, it is still a complaint at a high level, most of them are still doing relatively well in relation to other countries in the world.”
