Dollar smuggling case; Customs will question the Speaker’s Assistant Private Secretary today

Kochi: In the dollar smuggling case, the assistant private secretary of the speaker K. Ayyappan will be questioned by Customs today. The notice has been issued at the Kochi Customs Preventive Commissioner’s Office at 10 am. On two previous occasions the Assistant Private Secretary to the Speaker had refrained from questioning.

Customs had yesterday submitted a detailed reply to a letter issued by the Legislative Secretary stating that the staff could not be questioned without the permission of the Speaker. Summons to appear today It was sent to Ayyappan’s home address. Customs was intensifying follow-up action after receiving legal advice that the Speaker’s permission was not required to question the APS.

Ayyappan will be questioned by customs on the basis of a critical statement made against Speaker P Sriramakrishnan by Swapna Suresh on dollar debt. Customs was initially asked to appear on Tuesday. However, after not appearing, Ayyappan was given notice to return to the Kochi Preventive Office the previous day, but he evaded. The notice was then sent back to the customs home.
