Coronavirus infections continue to increase in Aragon in a serious escalation that has gone off since the beginning of Christmas, coinciding with the relaxation of restrictions that the authorities agreed, to alleviate the limitations that had been in force until the first half of December. The multiplication of social contacts has triggered a new outbreak, which in Aragon is already the fourth wave to suffer.
In the last seven days, from December 31 to January 6, Aragon has officially notified 2,262 infections. Just in the seven days leading up to Christmas, December 17-23, 1,224 infections were reported. That is to say, the spread of Covid has skyrocketed 85% since Christmas began.
The chains of contagion have proliferated, in a trend that clearly continues to rise, which is also observed in hospital pressure. In the last seven days, the Covid advances in Aragon to an average rate of 13 more infections every hour.
The infection rate has once again exceeded 300 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the health alarm threshold, which is 200 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
The intense pace with which the Covid has been re-sprouting in Aragon for weeks has led the autonomous Executive to reimpose restrictions it lifted for Christmas. Even so, it has not reinstated all those that governed Aragon before it chose to relax the limitations and begin the serious Christmas rebound. From the Government of Javier Lambán indicates that they will tighten the restrictions if the days go by and it is observed that this new wave of infections does not remit.
It must be taken into account that Aragon, as a whole, currently stands at 317 infections per 100,000 inhabitants, but this worrying rate is widely exceeded in much of the region. For now, the Government of Javier Lambán has not announced specific restrictions for the worst-off areas.
At present, the most extreme case is Calanda (Teruel), a basic health area where they reach 1,500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in an accumulated rate in fourteen days. Over 400 cases per 100,000 inhabitants there are 35 basic Aragonese health areas, including a large part of the capital Zaragoza, according to official statistics provided this Thursday by the regional government.
On the other hand, Christmas has left more than 100 deaths from coronavirus in Aragon. From December 24 to January 6, the Regional Executive has officially notified 107 deaths from Covid.
