Companies, authorities and other organizations fulfill their legal obligation to inform about pregnancies of female employees with maternity leave notifications. The women and their unborn children enjoy special protection. The Office for Occupational Safety and Health checks whether the legal requirements are met in the companies. The focus is on the jobs, activities and training processes that must be designed in such a way that mother and child are protected.
Because the previous reporting procedure required a lot of manual effort for everyone involved, it was simplified by the Department of Justice and Consumer Protection and the Office for IT and Digitization of the Senate Chancellery.
In the future, employers will be able to send their maternity leave notification digitally and call up the confirmation for themselves and their employees in the electronic mailbox. After the initial creation of the operating data for a company, the data can be used again and again in communication with the administration. Communication is then primarily digital. The data quality is also improved by providing assistance in the online form. For companies that cannot or do not want to use this route, conventional access is retained.
There are also plans to set up an interface through which companies can send their messages directly from their own system. The maternity leave notification is one of several 100 administrative services that are digitized in accordance with the nationwide Online Access Act (OZG). The focus is on the interests of the users.
All that is required for the digital maternity leave notification is a free service account for companies, with which many other digital administrative services can be used. If you don’t have a service account yet, you can register here:
