Production of 5G devices is estimated to exceed 500 million units by 2021

Harianjogja.com, JAKARTA – Murata Manufacturing Co., a supplier company ceramic capacitor for iPhones and other brands, it estimates that the demand for 5G devices will exceed 500 million units by 2021.

Apple, Samsung Electronics Co., and other Chinese rivals, namely Xiaomi Corp., Oppo, and Vivo are competing to secure the components of their devices. The reason is, one of the suppliers of 5G Huawei Technologies Co. have to grapple with sanctions from the United States.

Murata Manufacturing president Norio Nakajima said his company would work tooth and nail to meet the growing orders.

“They [produsen smartphone] will compete for our supply capacity which was previously dominated by Huawei. I am not sure how many stocks they have secured so far, ”he said, quoted by Bloomberg, Wednesday (6/1/2021).

Murata is a global leader in the MLCC (multilayer ceramic capacitors) industry. MLCC is a device used to regulate the flow of electricity on a circuit board. Hundreds, if not thousands of MLCCs are connected in on the device smartphone up to the car.

“This industry produces 300 million devices for 5G technology smartphone during this fiscal year. I estimate that demand will continue to increase by more than 50 million units in the next fiscal year, “he said.
