South Korean sci-fi movie “Space Sweepers” to be released on Netflix next month

SEOUL, 06 Jan. (Yonhap) – The South Korean sci-fi blockbuster “Space Sweepers” will be released on Netflix next month, the US streaming giant announced on Wednesday.

The film, starring Song Joong-ki and Kim Tae-ri, will be available to subscribers in 190 countries on February 5, the company said.

Originally slated for theatrical release last summer, “Space Sweepers” was one of the most anticipated Korean feature films of the year for its star-studded cast and big budget. It will ultimately be shown on Netflix bypassing theaters after its theatrical release schedule has been repeatedly postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Directed by Jo Sung-hee, the film features a group of space scavengers who hunt debris to earn money in 2092. It takes place in a fictional universe where the Earth is almost destroyed by pollution and a group of upper class people built a new habitable world in outer space.
