Percentage of positive tests on the rise: ‘no convincing effects of lockdown’

All regions high

The figures are high in all regions, the RIVM reports. In many safety regions there was a slight decrease, except in Zaanstreek-Waterland, Drenthe and Friesland. The Twente region also stands out in a negative sense: the number of positive tests, measured by the number of inhabitants, is the highest there. Most of the tests were also positive there.

RIVM is cautiously more positive about hospitals. The number of admissions was lower there last week. At the same time it was slightly busier in the ICs.

On December 18, just after the new lockdown came into effect, the so-called R-number dropped from 1.15 to 0.91. This is good news: an R below 1 reduces the spread of the virus. An R of 0.91 means that 100 people together infect 91 others.
