First place in the annual prize rankings
3rd in history with 1,038 million won
Shin Jin-seo 9th Dan, who broke the record for the annual win rate last year and became the leader in the Korean Go world, surpassed 1 billion won in prize money for the first time in their debut.
The Korea Institute announced on the 4th that as a result of the 2020 prize money rankings, Shin Jin-seo earned 1.38 billion won and took the first place.
With this, Shin Jin-seo became the fourth professional article in his career, following Lee Chang-ho 9dan in 2001, Lee Sedol 9dan in 2014, and Park Jeonghwan 9dan in 2019.
Shin Jin-seo, who recorded an annual win rate of 88.37% with 76-10 losses last year, replaced the previous 88.24% win rate (75-10 losses) set by Lee Chang-ho in 1988 in 1988 in 32 years.
Shin Jin-seo, who took the lead in many wins, odds, and consecutive wins, and even the best player (MVP) with an amazing win rate, surpassed 1 billion won in the first prize money for the first time, and rose to the first place in the prize money ranking.
Shin Jin-seo won 410 million won in world competitions last year, including 200 million won in the LG Cup championship prize and 100 million won in the Samsung Chemicals cultivation runner-up prize.
In Korea, it earned 320 million won by winning the GS Caltex Cup, Saw Pal Cosanol’s Best Knight Match, Yongseong Battle, KB Baduk Championship, and 7 victories in the Namhae Super Match.
In addition, it surpassed 1 billion won by adding 340 million won in income through the KB Baduk League and Gapjo League in China.
In the previous prize rankings, it ranked third after Lee Se-dol (1.4 billion won) and Park Jeong-hwan (1.29 billion won).
Park Jeong-hwan, who challenged the prize money king for four years in a row, dropped one notch to second place.
Park Jung-hwan earned a total of 813 million won last year.
Byeon Sang-il’s 9th Dan ranked third with 340 million won, and Kim Ji-Seok’s 9th Dan kept fourth with 275 million won.
9 Dan Dong-hoon Lee, Dong-yoon Kang, and Min-jun Shin ranked 6th to 8th with an income of over 100 million won. Park Ha-min’s 7th Dan was ranked 9th with a prize money of 73 million won, and Kim Myung-Hoon 8th Dan was ranked 10th with 65 million won.
