“The vaccines will be given in stages over the four quarters of 2021,” said the Deputy Health Minister Truong Quoc Cuong as reported by Vietnam News.

The injection requires two doses and will be given four weeks apart, meaning it will be given to about 15 million people in a country of more than 95 million. Cuong added that the government is also in discussions with several producers vaccine others, including Pfizer-BioNTech, Russia’s Sputnik V, and China’s Sinovac.

The Gamaleya Research Institute for Epidemiology and Microbiology, which produces Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine, has also shown interest in developing a vaccine in Vietnam. According to him, as part of the COVAX initiative led by the World Health Organization (WHO), Vietnam is eligible for vaccine support for 16 percent of its total population.
