Gerry Marsden, 78, singer Gerry and the Pacemakers, passed away

Gerry Marsden, singer of the group Gerry and the Pacemakers, died on Sunday at the age of 78, British media report. Marsden and his group ensured that the song You’ll never walk alone (1963) became popular.

Marsden died today as a result of inflammation of the heart. The Liverpool singer and television personality also scored hits with How do you do it? and I like it (both from 1963).

His version of You’ll Never Walk Alone has become the unofficial club song of Liverpool FC and is regularly sung in football stadiums around the world, including Feyenoord.
