Neymar rejects his allegation that 500 guests attended the New Year’s party.
He celebrates with his family and friends, everyone has been tested for the corona virus and there is a distance, says the 28-year-old in a video on Instagram. 500 guests were not invited, as was reported before New Year’s Eve.
In a video clip before the end of the year, Neymar showed a long table that only covered every second. “We deserve to celebrate our lives,” wrote the Parisian Saint Germain star.
And Brazilian media had previously reported about Neymar’s party with professional entertainment in a villa on a beach in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro, which began a few days before New Year’s Eve.
Brazil was hit hard by the virus
The reports sparked outrage – well-known Brazilian football journalist Juca Kfoury accused Neymar of mocking the families of more than 190,000 corona deaths in the South American country.
A Neymar spokeswoman denied the reports, saying, “Neymar won’t be throwing a party this year, we have a widespread epidemic and he’s hanging out with his friends and family,” said Dai Crespo.
Brazil ranks third in the number of coronavirus infections and the second most common death related to COVID-19 worldwide. Due to the corona crisis, the traditional New Year’s Eve celebrations on Copacabana Beach in Rio were canceled this year.
Right-wing President Jair Bolsonaro has repeatedly downplayed the severity of the pandemic. Neymar is one of his most prominent supporters.
