Austria’s second intercity hotel opens in Graz

A new opening in the city of design: Graz followed in Vienna’s footsteps and became the second location in Austria with an IntercityHotel when the IntercityHotel Graz opened on November 13, 2020, a central location right next to the main train station. This new four-star IntercityHotel offers 229 rooms on five floors and is currently the largest hotel in the city.

The hotel has a modern and comfortable interior design by the Italian architect Matteo Thun and therefore fits perfectly into a city known for its great creative scene. Graz is one of the UNESCO Designated Cities of Design, a status that means that it is part of an international network of creative cities. There are many museums, galleries and festivals as well as four universities and two colleges that offer courses in disciplines such as industrial design, information design, media design and l ‘interaction and design of exhibitions and museums.

“Art spaces” in the IntercityHotel Graz

The photographic art project “Kunsträume” was created after signing a cooperation agreement with the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences. Works by young artists with local connections are now exhibited in selected hotels operating under the IntercityHotel brand. The IntercityHotel Graz forms the backdrop for pictures by Simon Grunert and Georg Barbe, whose exhibition “Traces” takes a photographic look at Graz and Styria and invites observers to look at the city and region from their perspective.
