Park Geun-hye meets the requirements for the 14th sentence
Passport “The number of days to conclude if pardon before New Year”
野, election border…與 partial line repulsion
Lee Nak-yeon, the leader of the Democratic Party, who served as the first Prime Minister of the Moon Jae-in administration, brought out an amnesty to former President Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye, who is imprisoned on the first day of the new year. With the by-election of mayors in Seoul and Busan in April and the presidential election next year, the political power is on the rise from the beginning of the new year.
In a phone call with the Dong-A Ilbo on the 1st, Lee said, “I will propose to President Moon Jae-in the pardons of the two former presidents at the appropriate time.” Since the inauguration of the Moon Jae-in government, CEO Lee is the first to officially raise the need for pardon among key passport personnel. Representative Lee explained, “In order to overcome the national crisis in the new year and move on to the future, we have to go to national integration, but we decided that it was difficult to avoid that problem.”
The Blue House opened up the possibility of discussing the amnesty, saying, “It is a matter that can be discussed only when an actual proposal is made.” In the passport, there is an analysis that President Moon and Representative Lee met on December 26 last year and formed a preliminary rapport.
Former President Lee was sentenced to 17 years in prison in the Supreme Court in October last year, and President Park is facing a Supreme Court sentence on the 14th. A key Democratic Party official said, “After Park’s Supreme Court ruling, a discussion on amnesty has to be raised, but there is a need for a passport to lead this discussion first.” Said. Representative Lee also explained in the phone call, “I made my own decision because the President had to make a judgment someday, but it would be nice to relieve the burden.” Accordingly, there are observations that President Moon can make a full-scale pardon decision on the basis of national unity. A senior passport official said, “There is a possibility that a conclusion may be reached before the Lunar New Year holiday in February.” However, the variable is that the opposition in the ruling party is strong, such as Rep. Sang-ho Woo’s backlash that “it is not appropriate in terms of time and content”. The opposition’s reactions were mixed. The power of the people, Kim Jong-in, chairman of the Emergency Response Committee, avoided an immediate answer to the pardon, saying that it was the “first time I heard it.” “If there is an attempt to use the pardon for elections, it is unacceptable,” said Ahn Chul-soo, president of the National Assembly Party. He warned that it could be a paving stone aimed at splitting the opposition ahead of the by-election in April. On the other hand, Chin-I (Pro-Lee Myung-bak) and Chin-Bak (Pro-Park Geun-hye) camp members expressed their welcome saying, “It’s late, but fortunate.”
