Huawei has removed Tencent games from its app store

As reported by Bloomberg, Huawei has removed Tencent games like Arena of Valor from its app store. This is due to changes in the interaction of companies, which were the first to go to Tencent. Huawei dominates the Chinese smartphone market, accounting for 43% of device shipments last quarter.

At the same time, Tencent owns the companies behind League of Legends and Clash of Clans, and distributes Chinese versions of well-known games like PUBG and Monster Hunter: World. Thus, the dispute between the companies promises to affect many mobile players in China.

Huawei told Bloomberg that its legal department had recommended this decision because Tencent had asked to end the partnership. Tencent, meanwhile, said the agreement between the companies expired before a new one could be struck. All Tencent games disappeared from Huawei’s Chinese app store on the morning of January 1st.

Mobile users in China have recently witnessed the disappearance of many games for various reasons. For example, Apple recently deleted 39 thousand games from their Chinese App Store because they did not have an ISBN (International Standard Book Number) from the Chinese government. Many Western games are affected, including Assassin’s Creed Identity and NBA 2K20 – only 74 of the 1,500 most popular paid games remain with the cleanup.

As usual in such cases, users ultimately suffer. “We are discussing the current situation and are in talks with Huawei mobile gaming platform to resolve the issue and hope to resume our services soon.”Tencent said in a statement.
