The “Pixel, Bytes + Film” program supports eleven digital film projects

For the eleventh time, innovative projects with a digital focus are being funded under the title “Pixel, Bytes + Film”. The Federal Ministry for Art, Culture, Public Service and Sport is awarding around 250,000 euros. ORF III Kultur und Information supports with broadcast dates, editing suites, expertise and practical assistance during the production phase and reports on the artists.

For 2021, a jury of experts selected eleven new projects that deal with new media and digital technologies in image production in terms of content and form, as stated in a broadcast. Projects by Adnan Balcinovic, Uwe Brunner and Katharina Swoboda, among others, are funded. The expert jury consisted of Margarete Jahrmann (University of Applied Arts, Zurich University of the Arts), Kay Meseberg (ARTE GEIE), Sebastian Sorg (XR HUB Bavaria), Judith Revers (ORF III) and Antonia Rahofer (BMKÖS).

“The digital change is continuously influencing the production and reception of contemporary art – recently intensified by the pandemic. New media and expanded technological possibilities offer high artistic innovation potential,” said State Secretary for Art and Culture Andrea Mayer (Greens). “The promotion and visualization of contemporary art in combination with technical innovation is particularly important in the current situation for the Austrian cultural landscape”, underlines ORF III program manager Peter Schöber.

The artistic works of the “Pixel, Bytes + Film” program edition of the previous year will be presented in a specially designed, virtual exhibition on January 14th.
