Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer have raised the bar so much that the new generation of players will have to learn to dominate on all surfaces if they are to match the class of the trio, says former Serbian tennis star Janko Tipsarevic.
“Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer have raised the scale so much that it is necessary to dominate (on all surfaces) compared to the previous generation,” said Janko Tipsarevic, who was part of the winning team of the 2010 David Cup, at Sport Klub.
He predicted a bright future for Russia’s Daniil Medvedev, the world No.4, who won the Paris Masters and the ATP final in 2020. He said, however, that Medvedev had to learn to do better on clay.
“Medvedev is an incredible player,” Tipsarevic said. “It’s not about whether he’ll win the Grand Slam title, since he will, it’s not about whether he’ll be number one – he will at some point. “
“Sampras was superior for a very long time, and he collected points on grass and concrete (hard courts). “
“At this time a player has to be excellent on all surfaces to dominate, but at the moment I don’t see that Medvedev can do well on clay because of his style of play.”
