MOSCOW, KOMPAS.com – The woolly rhino was found under extraordinary conditions in Russia. These findings provide scientists with further evidence for ice age life.
University of Manchester geography professor Jamie Woodward shared a tweet about the discovery on Tuesday night (29/12/2020). He also includes a picture of the creature he found.
“Another extinct ice age beast excavated from the ice sheet,” he wrote.
“Very well-preserved hairy rhino carcass found in Yakutia. Its internal organs and guts await investigation.”
According to Siberian Times, the rhino was discovered in August by a local resident, Alexei Savvin. It is in the permafrost (ice sheet) deposits, along the Tirekhtyakh river, which is located in the Sakha Republic in northeastern Russia.

Launch Newsweek on Wednesday (12/30/2020), the ice age animal discovery site was not far from where Sasha, another furry rhino baby, was found in 2014.
Many of the internal organs were still discovered in this 2020 discovery. These include the teeth, parts of the intestines, lumps of fat and tissue, which have been superbly preserved for tens of thousands of years.
It is estimated that the rhino was about three or four years old when it died.
The sex of this animal is still unknown. Radiocarbon analysis is still needed to determine when the rhino was alive. The most likely estimate is between 20,000 and 50,000 years ago.

“A rhino has very thick undercoat, it is very likely that it died. In the summer, “said Valery Plotnikov of the Academy of Sciences.
Plotknikov also noted that it is likely that the rhino died from drowning.
The animal’s body is roughly 80 percent intact. This condition is expected to help scientists learn more about how the species lived.
The sex of the carcass has not been identified, but horns were found near the discovery site, according to The Sun.

According to The SunThe furry, shaggy rhino will be preserved on a glacier before being transferred to Yakutsk, where it will be studied by scientists.
Earlier this year, droppings from fossilized woolly mammoths were found by a group of people in Siberia Russia. The people who made this discovery hoped that with the creature’s dung they could see more of what the woolly mammoth had eaten.
This type of discovery has become increasingly common in recent years. This is because the permafrost (permanent, climate-controlled layer of ice on top of the ground) is starting to melt.
Newsweek previously reported that scientists believe that melting surface ice will impact the Arctic region in the Northern Hemisphere by 2050.
One study showed that permafrost could be sustained until 2100 if horses, bison, and other large herbivores inhabit the area. If these herders step on the snow with their tough nails, they can harm the snow-covered ground.
