LONDON – In a report it is stated that children are more easily infected a new strain of Covid-19 . Scientists have warned that the new strain of Covid-19 could have more of an impact on young people.

Previously, children were shown to be less affected by it Covid-19 because of the way the virus enters human cells via a receptor called ACE2, which is found in many cells in the upper respiratory tract. The amount of ACE2 that a person expresses continues to increase over time, meaning children have very little.

Professor Wendy Barclay from Imperial College London and a member of NERVTAG explained that his party did not say this was a virus that specifically affects children or is more specific in its ability to infect children. SARS-CoV-2, which appears as a virus, is not as efficient as infecting children as it is in adults.

Virus previously had a more difficult time to bind ACE2 and enter the cells and therefore adults, who have abundant ACE2 in their nose and throat, become easy targets and children are difficult to get infected, “said Barclay as reported Daily Express, Thursday (31/12).

“The newer viruses have an easier time doing that and therefore children are just as susceptible, perhaps, to this virus as adults. Given their mixing patterns, you will see more children getting infected,” he continued.

According to Barclay, it’s not that the virus specifically targets children, but is now less inhibited. While researchers continue to study the effects of new strains, the symptoms are the same. WebMD has updated its list of the main symptoms of Covid-19 to look out for:

1. Fever
