In lower altitudes, sleet or rain must be expected on New Year’s Day, the German Weather Service announced on Thursday in Offenbach. The temperatures climb to up to five degrees, at higher altitudes the meteorologists expected permafrost around minus one degree. It can also become smooth again. On Saturday night, temperatures as low as minus six degrees are possible and there is a risk of slipperiness due to freezing moisture or some snow. The first weekend of the year awaits with a mixture of sun, clouds and light snowfall. On Saturday it should remain largely free of rain with a maximum of three degrees on the Rhine and minus one degree in the high elevations of the Eifel. In the night on Sunday it can snow a little and become slippery in some areas, flakes are also possible during the day.
