GCC Summit: Invitation from the King of Saudi Arabia to the Emir

Doha: The King of Saudi Arabia has invited Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to attend the GCC Summit. The 41st GCC Summit will be held in Saudi Arabia on January 5. Naif bin Falah Al Hajraf handed over the invitation to the Emir. The GCC summit is expected to take a final decision on the sanctions against Qatar and the ensuing Gulf crisis.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdurrahman Al-Thani, Qatar’s Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, has said there will be no impediment to a solution. . But from the outset, Qatar’s position has been that it is ready for any kind of talks that are unconditional and respect the sovereignty of the country. Efforts led by Kuwait, which has been mediating the issue from the beginning, are now coming to fruition. Qatar and Saudi Arabia have agreed to end the embargo.

This is in connection with the lifting of the ban on Qatari flights over Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Most of the countries have already expressed support for the solution .The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Kuwait’s efforts would lead to a comprehensive solution to the problem. Saudi Arabia, Oman and Qatar have already welcomed the move.
