Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that he had moved the headquarters which manages the Asian markets from Hong Kong to Singapore. A move that on the one hand brings Sony’s offices closer to very important markets for the Japanese giant, while on the other hand it moves the headquarters away from the Asian megalopolis, in recent years at the center of a tug-of-war between China and local authorities. The new headquarters will be led by veteran Katsuhiko Murase, who has been appointed head of Asia Business Operations.
Sony does not directly manage operations from its Japanese headquarters. Indeed, it has ben two divisions, one for East Asia (Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea) and one for West Asia (the SEA markets including Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines). With this move, the entertainment giant also physically separated the two divisions.
Murase moved to Singapore, the city from which he will manage the expansion of the Playstation brand in markets with great potential, in which the video game is declined, however, mainly on the mobile market.
The division of West Asia will be led by Mustafa Yigit, the current sales manager for West Asia and former head of PlayStation Turkey.
