Head coach Adam Gase said on Wednesday that the team has started the process of tracing contacts among other players and team staff.
Perine is the first Jets player this season to contract the virus.
Suddenly, the Jets will be reduced to this position for their last game of the season, Sunday at New England.
Veteran Frank Gore will be sidelined with a sore lung, leaving only Ty Johnson and Josh Adams healthy as running back.
Gase has shown himself confident that Perine’s problems will not affect Johnson or Adams.
The Jets’ 2020 fourth-round pick, Perine returned to the game last Sunday after missing four games with an ankle injury.
In the Jets’ 23-16 victory over the Cleveland Browns, Perine made nine carries for gains of 30 yards. He added 14 passing yards.
Perine, who also missed the opener with another ankle injury during training camp, ends his rookie season with gains of 232 rushing yards and two touchdowns, using 64 races. He also caught 11 passes for gains of 63 yards.
