Elke Christ says goodbye to the cultural office

The 63-year-old is retiring after more than two decades. The team in the cultural office would like to support you in the future.

Ginsheim-Gustavsburg – Elke Christ is going to retire on December 31st, and she doesn’t like it that much, as she admits: “I’m going into retirement with a crying eye. Actually, I’m not really ready for retirement yet. Especially since this year wasn’t a good graduation year for me. ” It hurt her soul that planned cultural events had to be canceled at short notice.

Since 1994, Christ has been part of the city’s cultural office team. With her work, she advanced the cultural development in the area. The plans for this year have always been uncertain. That started with the program of the municipal cinema in the Burg-Lichtspiele. The ideas had to be adapted depending on the measures. However, the visitors reacted very understandingly every time, notes Christ gratefully.

Elke Christ completed her apprenticeship in 1974 in the municipal administration of Ginsheim and learned the profession of administrative clerk. After a few years of parental leave, she heard about a job in the cultural sector. “Of course, that had a lot less to do with the administrative job that I had previously done. But that really appealed to me. I learned a lot by just trying things out,” continues Christ. Initially, she started with half a job, but then increased it to a full-time position after a while. “I had a lot of fun choosing the films for the cinema,” says the outgoing employee. In general, it was exciting to support the city in developing further culturally. “A lot has happened in the 26 years in which I was part of the team at the Kulturbüro. First the roller coaster was founded. Then a series of theater for adults and children came about. Finally, there was the cultural summer and the series ‘Jazz in the cinema’ as well as the crowd puller Weinspitze about it. It was very exciting for me to be a part of everything and to be able to make suggestions, “Christ remembers with pleasure.

The concerts have become more and more demanding over time and the audience has appreciated this. “We have built up a loyal regular audience. These regular visitors were very happy after the first lockdown when the first events took place again. Now I hear from some of them how much they miss cultural life. You can hardly wait for that it finally starts again. “

Elke Christ says she is sure that the cultural program will be well received again after the current lockdown. “Perhaps people will then attend the events even more intensely than they did in the summer,” suspects the cultural office employee. “We in the team remained optimistic throughout the year and planned early and in good time. In this second lockdown it is even more difficult, but the team has now gained a lot of experience.”

She herself would like to remain loyal to the culture after retirement, says Elke Christ a little emotionally. “My heart is attached to it. If the situation hopefully normalizes in the coming year, I would like to take on an honorary position in this area. Maybe there will even be something in the culture office.”

But until then, Christ will be needed by her family. “I am currently taking a lot of care of the grandchildren for my children. I also look after my father.” Elke Christ will definitely not get bored at first.
