AGI – The ‘queen of happy goats’ is dead. The dream of integration and redemption she embodied could have been one of her employees, a young man – African like her – with whom she had had economic disagreements.
Agitu Ideo Gudeta, the Ethiopian shepherd transplanted to Italy, was found dead this evening in her home in Frassilongo in Val dei Mocheni in Trentino. The investigations focus, in fact, on a young African employee of the company she founded and thanks to which she had become the symbol of integration in Trentino but also throughout Italy and it was also famous abroad, especially in Germany.
It seems to be now certain that it was a murder. Exile and transplanted to Italy, Agitu was shot to death (with a hammer later found) inside her home in Maso Villalta. Numerous on his body wounds and, among these, also one to the head.
She, a shepherd originally from Ethiopia from where she fled following the social conflicts and threats she had received from her government, took refuge in the mountains of Trentino in a valley, the Valle dei Mo’cheni, a side of the most ‘frequented Valsugana.
With determination, enormous willpower and even foresight he had created the organic farm ‘La Capra Felice’ from a project for the recovery of abandoned land and native rustic breeds. The company deals with goat breeding (spotted goat mo’chena), performed through organic method and transformation of the raw material: produces organic cheeses from pasture to grass, yogurt and also cosmetic products with goat milk.
Agitu, who became the ‘queen of happy goats’, started breeding 15 native goats in that corner of the mountain and reached 150, the current ones, in addition to 50 laying hens.
In August 2018 the woman had received racially motivated threats and assaults.
On January 27 the man who was guilty of the persecutory acts and injuries – CC, 54 years old resident in Frassilongo in the property next to that of Agitu – was sentenced by the Court of Trento to nine months in prison for the crime of injury .
Judge Elena Farhat had convicted the man for the crime of injury following a documented fact with a report, dismissing the accusation of stalking and above all laggravating racial hatred.
Last June in full economic crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, Agitu Ideo Gudeta had opened the first in Piazza Venezia in Trento ‘Workshop of the Happy Goat’.
On that occasion the shepherdess said, “we must not stop, with dreams we build our future”. Inside the shop, in addition to finding vegetables, cheeses, eggs and even cosmetic products, customers can also enjoy a reading corner and Ethiopian coffee.
