Covid-19: Apple Wallet stores proof of vaccination in Los Angeles

The Covid-19 vaccine is making its debut in several countries, including France. On the US side, Apple’s iPhone Wallet app can be used to prove that one has been vaccinated. It also works on Android with an equivalent app.

Evidence of the Covid-19 vaccine in Apple Wallet currently exists in Los Angeles County. The county has partnered with Healthvana to add the evidence on its iPhone or Android smartphone.

What is the point ? It’s very simple: make sure that people who have been vaccinated receive their second dose in a few weeks. According to Bloomberg, this could also be potentially useful in the future for different accesses. For example, proving that one has been vaccinated by showing the Apple Wallet app could allow flying, going to concerts and more.

But for now, the real interest is alerting people who have had the Covid-19 vaccine so that they don’t miss the second dose. “We are really worried. We really want people to come back for that second dose ”, explains a Los Angeles County health official.

As of December 22, Los Angeles County has administered 38,850 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.
