Library books travel by motorcycle

The National Library of Peru (BNP) launched a book delivery service on motorcycles with the aim that more people have access to texts and reading.


Within the framework of inter-institutional collaboration with State entities, the National Library of Peru (BNP) received – for a period of two years – four motorcycles owned by the General Archive of the Nation (AGN).

The delivery of the vehicles was carried out in the context of BNP Library Extension Service, through the loan of books at home in the Public Library Stations (EBP) and, soon, of the Great Public Library of Lima (GBPL), for the benefit of citizens. More units will join the delivery of books as the service expands.

It should be noted that Great Public Library of Lima Its purpose is to facilitate access to knowledge and reading for free to the citizen. Meanwhile, from Public Library Stations It is considered important to continue with the book loan service, in order to promote access to reading for the benefit of the citizens of the districts of Breña, La Victoria and The Augustinian.

For this reason, with the use of motorcycles, the service will reach the majority of the population of each district where the library stations. The result will be that more families, older adults and people with disabilities have access to texts and reading as a space for enjoyment, support and imagination.

He loan system will be similar to the one provided in Public Library Stations, which is done through an online catalog located in the portal of the National Library. The reference person organizes the order of books, and each user can request up to six books, which are delivered to their home with all biosecurity measures.
