State Secretary Baeriswyl moves to New York

Pascale Baeriswyl becomes Head of the Permanent Mission of Switzerland to the UN in New York. She had lost a lot of influence in the foreign department under Federal Councilor Ignazio Cassis.

When Ignazio Cassis took over the foreign department, one person caused a stir. Cassis withdrew the European dossier from State Secretary Pascale Baeriswyl and introduced a second top diplomatic post. Roberto Balzaretti first took over the negotiations with the EU, later also the contacts with the EU member states – with which Baeriswyl lost its place as the undisputed number two in the foreign affairs department.
