Taking over each month of the year, Stéven Tual makes a startling observation: “It was only in October that the average temperature was below normal for the season. ” To put it another way: eleven of the twelve months of the year display a thermal average higher than the temperatures calculated between 1980 and 2010. There is no longer any need to demonstrate this.
Very mild winter and spring
This temperature anomaly began to stand out in January when frost was almost non-existent. “Lorient has only experienced one frost, whereas there are seven in the normal season”, cites Stéven Tual as an example.
There followed a month of February of “Amazing sweetness” : 3.1 ° C above normal, averaged across the region. On the island of Groix, in February, no day was below seasonal norms: “It had never happened! “
The very sunny weather of March continued into April, with days “Almost summer”. AT Rennes, the stations recorded 224 hours of sunshine. “It corresponds to the sunshine of a month of June”, assures the meteorologist. At the same time, Brest recorded its second hottest April in history. As a result, precipitation became scarce and it was not until May to return to normal rainfall.
A hot summer, before the storm
The following month, in June, the high temperatures were felt all the way off our coasts. “In Belle-Île, it was between 19 and 20 ° C with your feet in the water. Temperatures that rivaled what we saw in Saint-Tropez ”, compares Stéven Tual. This summer, tourists were able to appreciate these temperatures above normal for the season.
It was in October that the weather was unleashed, on the occasion of the storm Alex. “We broke many records there”, assures Stéven Tual. The wind blew strong: 186 km / h recorded in Belle-Île, 135 km / h in Quiberon or 157 km / h in Groix. It also rained a lot: 40% to 250% above normal for the season. The weather has changed.
