Melbourne: India took a 131-run first-innings lead in the second Test against Australia. India were bowled out for 326 in the first innings against Australia’s 195. With captain Ajinkya Rahane (112) being run out, things got easier for Athiyar. Ravindra Jadeja scored 57 runs. Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon took three wickets each for Australia. Australia started the second innings losing the first wicket. Joe Burns returned with four runs.
Unnecessary runout again
India started the third day at 277 for five. Team India will have a lead of at least 200 runs in mind. But the wicket was lost to a run that did not change everything. Rahane’s run-out, which was rock solid at one end, was the turning point in the innings. Rahane fell just as India captain Virat Kohli was run out in the first innings of the Adelaide Test. With the loss of Kohli’s wicket, India lost their dominance. Rahane’s return while playing well was a setback here too. Tim Payne Bales took the wicket of Labushane. Rahane hit 112 off 222 balls, including 12 fours. Rahane put on a valuable 119-run stand with Jadeja. It was the star’s 12th Test century.
