We had known for a long time that the latest film with the superhero would not only be shown in the cinema. Now the numbers from the first weekend are there and show that this path was definitely worth it.
In America (or any other country where cinemas are open) this is the weekend Wonder Woman 1984 started. And although the film is also available on the HBO Max streaming portal at the same time, a decent “Corona” result was achieved in the cinemas. In America, Gal Gadot poured almost 17 million dollars into the coffers and worldwide it is now almost 85 million dollars. Of course, this is no comparison to “normal” times, but it does prove that the big films generate sales in the halls even in funny times.
At the same time, one hears from HBO Max that almost half of all subscribers are said to have watched the film on the day it was released, breaking records in key groups. It was also found that there was three times as much traffic as on a normal day without it Wonder Woman 1984.
These success stories also ensure that planning for a third part of Wonder Woman, again directed by Patty Jenkins (Monster, Cleopatra, Rogue Squadron) were accelerated. Of course, Gal Gadot will play Diana Prince again and it seems that the figure and its opponents have now become even more popular.
It has been in the US box office for Tom Hanks and his News of the World passed to second place and with The Croods: A New Age a film that was released some time ago is still at the forefront. Last week’s front runner, Monster Hunter, however, has already slipped back to fourth place.
