The announcement was made by Ontario health officials who, quoted by AFP, say the two infected people are a couple who “do not have a history of travel, exposure (to the virus) or high-risk contacts”.
According to the same source, the couple was placed in isolation.
This procedure occurs on the same day that Ontario reinstated the confinement due to the increase in the number of covid-19 cases.
The English strain of the virus has also been detected at least in the Netherlands, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Sweden and Japan.
Much of the European Union (EU) is preparing to start vaccination against covid-19 on Sunday, in an action that will be developed gradually and whose first phase will focus on the most vulnerable people, the elderly or health professionals especially exposed to infections.
