A hit-and-run driver struck a woman pushing her 1-year-old grandson in a stroller, putting the grandmother in critical condition and leading to the baby’s death on Christmas morning, authorities said.
The girl, Amara White, was being pushed onto Londondale Parkway in Newark, Ohio, shortly before 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 23, when they were both hit by a vehicle. The driver did not provide assistance and immediately left, police said.
The boy was taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital and died shortly after 10:00 am on Friday, December 25. His 63-year-old grandmother remains in critical condition at the Grant Medical Center.
A 36-year-old man was arrested at his apartment hours later, police said, and the vehicle was located, police said. The Licking County prosecutor’s office will decide whether aggravated vehicular manslaughter and other charges are warranted.
