Last Saturday, 525 new corona cases were registered in Hamburg. However, the figures are only partially comparable, as fewer tests were carried out on the holidays and not all health authorities provide their data. The number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in one week in Hamburg is now 157.7. According to the authority, a total of 35,115 people in Hamburg have tested positive for the corona virus since the beginning of the pandemic. According to estimates by the Robert Koch Institute, around 25,200 of these can now be regarded as recovered.
100 corona patients in intensive care units
516 corona patients are in Hamburg’s hospitals, 100 of them currently in intensive care units. The Hamburg Institute for Forensic Medicine has clearly identified Covid 19 as the cause of death in 498 deaths. This number is as of December 23 and the death number is not updated daily. According to Benjamin Ondruschka, head of the institute, most deaths occur in the 80 to 90-year-old age group. There are significantly more men than women among the dead.
Most of the deceased had previous illnesses
According to Ondruschka, most of the deceased had previous illnesses. According to the forensic doctor, the characteristic risk profile includes heart and vascular diseases, diabetes and obesity. Younger people with only minor previous illnesses died of Covid-19 only in individual cases. “So far these have really been exceptions in deaths,” emphasized Ondruschka.
