COVID-19: Developments in Southeast Asia remain complex | International

Hanoi (VNA) – On December 25, Indonesia recorded an additional 258 deaths from COVID-19, the largest daily increase on record, bringing the total number of infected to 20,847 cases.

According to the Indonesian Ministry of Health, the number of new infections also increased by 7,259 cases, bringing the total number of cases to 700,097 cases. Indonesia is currently the country most affected by the coronavirus in South East Asia. On the same day, the Philippine health ministry announced 1,885 new infections and seven additional deaths, bringing the national toll to 467,601 cases and 9,062 deaths.

Thailand said new cases linked to the outbreaks recently discovered in Samut Sakhon had spread to 31 out of 77 provinces and cities in the country. So far, 8,810 people have been tested in Samut Sakhon province and 1,308 people (15%) have found positive results.

As of December 25, Thailand has confirmed 5,910 cases of COVID-19, including 60 deaths.

On February 26, Laos announced it was temporarily imposing an import ban on fresh and frozen seafood from Thailand over fears that these products would be contaminated with the dangerous virus. -VNA
