One of the greatest tennis players in history will return to the circuit at the age of 39. After a year off the court, Roger Federer announced his return by signing up to play the Australia Open, the first Grand Slam of the year.
After facing two operations on his right knee that left him out of the circuit since January 2020, he will be playing again in the high competition that will take place in Australian lands between February 8 and 21, 2021.
Federer, with his participation confirmed, was the fifth seed behind the Serbian Novak Djokovic (1), the Spanish Rafael Nadal (2), the Austrian Dominic Thiem (3) and the Russian Daniil Medvédev (4).
The last competitive appearance of the great Swiss tennis player was on January 30 of this year, when he lost in the semifinals of the Australian Open against Djokovic, who later became champion at Melbourne Park.
