In recent months, several exploratory studies have been conducted into the link between a lack of vitamin D and the coronavirus. A recent research is that of Northwestern University in the US state of Illinois, which RTL Nieuws also wrote about.
The researchers concluded that patients in countries with many deaths, such as Italy and Spain, had significantly lower vitamin D levels than patients in countries where the mortality is lower.
Call
In the AD, countless experts today again stand in the gap for the vitamin and speak of a unique effect. The government should urge people to take the vitamin preventively, they say.
“There is a growing consensus in the scientific world about the important role of vitamin D”, says Manfred Eggersdorfer of the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG).

Wait and see attitude
The wait-and-see attitude of the government goes wrong for the group of experts. For example, professor Huub Savelkoul: “There are more and more studies showing the benefit of vitamin D. I find it a kind of arrogance that the government wants to wait for a meta-study first,” the professor told the newspaper.
There is now also a worldwide appeal that demands more attention for vitamin D. The call has been signed by 150 scientists.
