Spend Christmas at home after 13 days of Covid intubation

Cove.- Dr. Luis Enrique Campa Jáuregui, assigned to Zone 8 General Hospital, Ensenada, Baja California, spent Christmas at home thanks to the care he received from his colleagues; who saved his life after being intubated for 13 days due to Covid-19.

With 25 years of service in the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), Campa Jáuregui arrived at work on a Thursday morning in good condition, possibly with a little allergy, but was unable to complete his shift.

“I never imagined that I would spend the next 13 days in the intensive care unit, requiring the support of the specialized technical and human team to move forward,” he said.

In his case, the Covid-19 appeared suddenly; When he felt unusual fatigue, he sought the advice of his colleagues in the emergency department and after detecting abnormalities on a chest x-ray and starting with breathing problems, he was immediately admitted.

He received initial care, however, 24 hours later he was sedated and intubated with a serious diagnosis; for this reason, he had to be transferred to the intensive care unit.

They spent 13 days in this condition, but luckily, in Dr. Campa’s opinion, he managed to survive through 56 years of healthy living, free from bad habits and illnesses.

It has been two weeks he has no memory of, but he is convinced that the experience, care and dedication of the HGZ No.8 staff has allowed him to come to his senses and overcome the most critical phase of disease.

“I would like to thank the Institute and all my colleagues for the care I have received, I am aware of everything they have done so that I become ahead of this disease and that they continue to m ‘help,’ he said.

Dr Campa mentioned that he felt lucky to be home at Christmas with his wife and son, and now with them he has started physical and respiratory rehabilitation.
