Jorge Díez has been a DJ for 18 years. He has been heard, for example, at the Oktoberfest in Gijón, Avilés and Oviedo. He worked at weddings and parties in prao, but with the covid-19 he has run dry. At least when it comes to bowling, because his musical ability is still intact. And if not, let them tell their neighbors on Calle San Juan, who during their confinement had their decibels raised with live music. The thing was to more and they even held costume contests. “We even created a WhatsApp group,” he highlights.
Yesterday the 24th, Díez’s loudspeakers blared again on San Juan de Contrueces street. This time it was first tried to celebrate the holidays among the neighbors, but with a special memory for two acquaintances of the neighborhood. One of them died of covid-19 and another, a woman, who recently died of cancer. “We wanted to pay tribute to those people,” says the DJ who started his session with the quintessential Christmas classic. I mean, “All I want for Christmas is You” by Mariah Carey.
In Cimadevilla, the Christmas spirit is celebrated on the balcony. The neighborhood association organizes a contest to decorate them and will give the winner a voucher of 150 euros to spend in the neighborhood. For the moment, Begoña Calvo, a nurse who has taken the opportunity to issue a warning, is in first place. “If you toast in Cimadevilla, put on the mask”, is the motto with which he participates in some parties, which are outside.
