Melbourne: If India do not win or draw the Boxing Day Test against Australia, it will be the biggest embarrassment in Test history. In the 88 – year history of Tests, India will be embarrassed to lose all the Test matches they have played in a calendar year (at least three matches).
India have yet to win a Test this year. If they lose in Melbourne too, India will have to complete a calendar year without winning a single Test. 19 times in Test history, a team has never won a Test in a calendar year. Of these, Bangladesh has won five times, Zimbabwe, Australia and South Africa three times, while England, New Zealand, West Indies and Sri Lanka have each completed the calendar year without a Test win.
India has not yet passed the calendar year without even a single victory. Earlier this year, India lost two Tests against New Zealand and the Adelaide Test against Australia. The Boxing Day Test in Melbourne is the 100th Test between India and Australia.
Australia are far ahead with 43 wins from 99 Tests so far. Australia have not lost a Test at home since losing the series against India in 2018-2019. The factor that gives India hope in Melbourne is that India won here in the last series. India have won three of the 13 Tests they have played against Australia in Melbourne.
