New York to quarantine UK travelers

Mayor de Blasio announced a new effort to ensure that people traveling from international destinations, particularly the United Kingdom, are quarantined upon arrival in the city.

The measure responds to concerns about a new variant of the coronavirus that is spreading at an even faster rate.

All international travelers entering the city will now receive a quarantine order by certified mail.

Those arriving from the UK will receive the warrant delivered personally by a municipal official and a follow-up visit by the Sheriff’s Office.

Those who do not comply with the quarantine could face fines of up to $ 1,000 per day.

De Blasio and the city sheriff, Joseph Fucito, indicated that the city works closely with the state, and that the state provides information to local governments to enforce quarantine orders.
