A Christmas meal was distributed to the most disadvantaged this Thursday evening by volunteers Restaurants in the heart of Haute-Garonne. They were able to drink some hot coffee and eat a confit of duck leg, vegetables and a Yule log that had been prepared by The Moaï, the restaurant of the Muséum de Toulouse, who was responsible for delivering 200 to 250 hot dishes to the Restos du Cour. Beyond the meal, it is above all the idea of being there for them, of making sure that they are not alone that evening, asking them how they are, and all the more so during this period. epidemic.
“It is heartwarming to see that the volunteers sacrifice their Christmas night to come here for us“, smiles Karim, 38-year-old Toulousain who lost his job in the construction industry, because of the crisis. About ten volunteers were present in Toulouse on the site of the Grand Rond. Among them, a few volunteers for one evening, came lend a hand to the teams mobilized during the holidays.
About thirty people came to enjoy a hot meal for this evening of December 24th. A night like any other for many, like Diane, who came to pick up a tray and a coffee. She comes to the distributions from the 24th in the evening like the others to find “some company”. It is also one of the objectives of the Restos du Cœur: to hear from people who have come to look for food, to discuss and comfort them, especially on Christmas Eve, and all the more in the context of the health crisis. .
“Before covid we distributed 300 meals every evening, today we distribute between 600 and 650, on the three distribution sites in Toulouse” details Pierre Henri, the referent of the association on the Grand Rond website, who insists on the importance of these distributions in times of covid.
