Watch out for slackening in New York

New York State’s most recent death toll reported 540 new deaths, a significant decrease in deaths per day in this COVID-19 ravaged region. Still, we have to be careful.

At least that’s the feeling of Brigitte Dumas, a Quebecer who lives and works in New York. “It remains extremely high and we are talking about a flattening of the curve which requires 2000 hospitalizations per day”, she explains in an interview with LCN.

“People are still very careful, we are not yet cutting champagne, if I may say so,” she says.

She noticed some slackening, especially because of the good weather. “It’s summer coming to New York, it’s 20 degrees and people relax automatically, it seems.”

“We are worried about a release, some people will see 540 deaths and think that it goes down and that we can release gradually when this is not the case.”
