Commenting on the two cooperation agreements signed on Tuesday in Rabat between Morocco and the United States of America, on the occasion of the visit to the Kingdom of a high-level American-Israeli delegation, the minister said in a statement to the continuous information channel of the MAP that these historic agreements mobilize 5 billion dollars, with the aim of promoting investments in Morocco and Africa.

The first part corresponds to the opening of the Prosper Africa office, an American initiative which was initiated in 2018 and which brings together 17 American agencies, including the main American ministerial departments, in addition to Exim Bank, OPIC (Overseas Private Investment Corporation), USAID, the Millennium Challenge Corporation, among others, Jazouli said. The United States is thus creating for the first time a branch of this agency outside the United States and doing so here in Morocco, which will generate business between the United States, Morocco and the rest of the African continent, estimated for Morocco at one billion dollars.

For the second part, he added, it is an agreement with the Moroccan government where the DFC (American Corporation for the Financing of International Development) undertakes to invest in Morocco the equivalent of 3 billion dollars on major projects, in particular through the Mohammed VI Fund for strategic investment, but also to invest with Moroccan companies on projects in Africa.

The last part is to open the office of the 2X Women Africa initiative, aiming to push female entrepreneurship in the MENA zone with an envelope of 1 billion dollars, explained Mr. Jazouli.

On Tuesday, the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States of America signed two cooperation agreements intended to promote investments in Morocco and Africa.

This is a memorandum of understanding between the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States International Development Finance Corporation (DFC). This memorandum of understanding plans to provide financial and technical support to private investment projects, amounting to USD 3 billion, in Morocco and in sub-Saharan African countries, in coordination with Moroccan partners.

The second agreement is a letter of intent between the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Government of the United States, represented by the American International Development Finance Corporation, regarding the American “Prosper Africa” initiative. Through this letter of intent, the Moroccan government expresses its support for the American initiative Prosper Africa. A branch of this agency will be opened at the United States Embassy in Rabat in order to facilitate access to American investors and cooperate together towards Africa.
