Handball-2. League: crucial deep sleep at the beginning – DRHV loses in Hamburg

Hamburg –

On the short way out of the catacombs of the Hamburg sports hall back to the floor, Sebastian Glock quickly did the math again on Wednesday evening. “If you look at the game from the sixth minute, we win it by two goals,” said the managing director of the Dessau-Roßlauer HV.

Well, unfortunately in handball games the full 60 minutes count from start to finish, and because the DRHV was already 2: 6 behind in the away game at HSV Hamburg after five and a half minutes, they also lost 27:29 in the end. But that was not what Manager Glock was about at the moment, his words contained a deeper message: After some weak performances in the last few weeks, the DRHV in Hamburg actually played a very good game – but a little bit was missing to make one of the the best teams in the league.

Trainer Jungandreas is acidic about the initial phase

In the end, it wasn’t just the five and a half minutes of deep sleep at the beginning of the game that tipped the balance for the fourth defeat in a row. But he was a big factor. Whereby Hamburg did not surprise the DRHV in the first few minutes. “It was a game in which exactly what we saw happened,” said Dessau-Roßlaus head coach Uwe Jungandreas. His team was prepared for the fast and one-on-one-heavy game of Hamburg and had received a plan on how to proceed against it. At the beginning nobody knew how to implement it. “One or the other player has to question himself,” said Jungandreas sourly.

It took the DRHV ten, twelve minutes to get into the game. “Then we did well,” said Jungandreas. Bit by bit, his team worked its way through a compact defense and more concentration in the attack, which mainly players from the supposed second row like Tim Bielzer, Lennart Gliese or substitute keeper Julian Malek played their part. At halftime, the guests were at least within striking distance at 17:14 for Hamburg.

And just ten minutes after the break, Dessau-Roßlau even managed to equalize (19:19) after the game started. Uwe Jungandreas’ team now had the upper hand – but only for a few seconds. A time penalty against Gliese including a seven-meter converted in the margin, a bad pass in the build-up of the game by Max Emanuel, who was luckless against Dresden, including a Hamburg hit in the empty goal and a miss and a counterattack later, the DRHV was back 19:22.

“We are currently cutting ourselves again and again into our own flesh. And always at the wrong time, ”said captain Vincent Sohmann after the game. It was clear to see that the team currently lacks self-image. Simple mistakes happen in situations when she should really go for it. “And then you start all over again,” says Sohmann. Only the new deficit could not be made up again. Hamburg cleverly played down its boot and celebrated its seventh win in a row.

DRHV is still looking for Constance before the last game of the year

Before the last game of the year against Bietigheim on Sunday, the DRHV is still looking for the consistency that distinguished the promoted team at the beginning of the season. In Hamburg, Uwe Jungandreas first had to send a few lineups to the field before it worked. The problem: “If you always have to try, the time is over at some point,” said the coach. It has been the case for weeks that two or three – sometimes only small – factors are missing.

That is enough for the DRHV to get into trouble. “We can hide a problem area, but not anymore,” said Jungandreas. “Team strength is always the accumulation of individual performance.” In Hamburg, they were mostly right at least from the sixth minute. But by then it was already too late.
