New Delhi: The Union Cabinet has approved the merger of the Film Division, the Film Festival Directorate, the National Film Archives of India and the Children’s Film Society into the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) Limited. Government sources said the merger would enable better coordination of various activities and resources by merging all the units under one corporation.
With the approval of the merger of these media units, it was decided to appoint an Executive Officer and a Legal Adviser to oversee the sharing of assets and staff and other activities. Measures will be taken to respect the interests of the employees without excluding them.
With the merger of the film media units, everything related to filmmaking will be available under one umbrella. The new measures are aimed at ensuring a balanced and focused development of all types of feature films in Indian cinema, including films for OT platforms, films for children, animation, short films and documentaries. These steps can be taken to avoid repeating the same actions and thereby reducing losses.
