In the last Council meeting, held just yesterday, Brutto, at the head of a group, the single-component UDC, was absent. Elected in 2017, in truth he had never shone for assiduity of presence in these three years. Indeed … Already in February 2020, in a Council torn apart by the post Gettonopoli resignations of five directors, the UDC group leader had had to face the verdict of the Chamber regarding his possible forfeiture as a director precisely due to the repeated absences accumulated up to then. He was saved by the secret vote of the Chamber, taken by his colleagues on the basis of a defensive memory that remained largely secret for reasons of privacy, but which supported the same justification partly adopted for today’s resignation: health reasons. In fact, in the brief notes he delivered on the sidelines of his resignation: “Reasons of a personal nature, also related to health, do not allow me to continue my mandate in this last period of council. Not being able to guarantee the full-time commitment that I have always dedicated to politics, I took this decision with a deep sense of responsibility and respect for the institutions, thanking all those who have placed their trust in me ”.
There is obviously not only this. Ugly himself confirms it to Czinforma: “I am used to considering politics as a full-time commitment, which does not allow distractions or its development in a short time as it has happened to me in recent months, largely due to my health conditions which are not optimal. There is no particular reason, if not the failure of a certain idea of politics that I have cultivated for years and that today I no longer find “. A prominent exponent of the center-right in various councils, Tommaso Brutto had also been hit, like 28 out of 32 fellow councilors, by the cyclone “Gettonopoli” for the improper receipt of attendance fees in the council commissions of Palazzo De Nobili. Cyclone subsequently weakened by strong wind and then by light breeze for many positions for which the accusation of aggravated fraud has fallen, changed in the latest investigative hypotheses into simple and liable to extinction due to the particular “tenuousness of the fact”. The latter hypothesis, however, which should not affect the position of four directors, including Brutto.
From the political-administrative point of view, Tommaso Brutto is replaced by the first of the non-elected on the UDC list, Jonny Corsi, for whom the subrogation procedure is envisaged. In practice, the next City Council will proceed with the subrogation and, if Corsi wants to remain in the Udc group, which has not yet been verified, he will find it strangely more crowded than it has been until now, when he was the only Ugly to represent him. In the meantime, they joined the party led by the region Franco Talarico, two municipal councilors elected in Forza Italia and almost immediately passed through the Mixed, Giovanni Merante and Antonio Triffiletti. Merante even appointed provincial secretary, who curiously so far had not been able to make his entry into the council group of the Municipality because the internal regulations require the consent of the group leader. Now the obstacle, with the resignation of Brutto, is overcome, and, to tell the truth, before the resignation Brutto warned Merante of the decision. It will be a question of the members of the group, two or three depending on the willingness of Corsi to join it or not, to decide who will be the leader, delegated to participate in the conference of the Bureau. From what has been circulating, Jonny Corsi, who is also highly experienced as a director, will more likely opt for the Mixed group.
