Origami in the Church – Michael Pendry and his installations

The multimedia artist Michael Pendry, who was born in Germany and lives in London, is showing his installation “Die Tauben” in the Washington National Cathedral.

Two thousand origami doves are supposed to spread the message of peace and hope. His paper pigeons have been seen in several cathedrals around the world for the past six years, from Jerusalem to Salisbury and New York to San Francisco.

“In bars and restaurants, wherever we went, we would fold pigeons. These pigeons literally come from all over the world. They come from many different countries, from different people, from different religions. That’s the idea behind it.”

“It’s about beauty and hope and looking to the future when we are no longer ruled by this pandemic”.

The installation “Die Tauben” in the Washington National Cathedral by the German artist Michael Pendry will be on view until May 2021 despite the current closure of the church.
