As part of the “Wachau Study”, it was found that antibodies against the coronavirus are still largely detectable in the blood of previously infected people even after nine months.
Antibodies against the coronavirus were still found in people who were sick nine months after an infection. As part of the “Wachau Study”, 152 previously infected people were examined again on December 10 and 11.

“In almost 84 percent of those who were infected in March, antibodies (IgG) are still detectable,” reported Robert Wagner, Director of Science at Danube Private University Krems (DPU) in a broadcast on Tuesday.

According to the study, corona antibodies in the blood longer than expected
According to Wagner, the results coincide with those from October, where antibodies were also detected in 84 percent of the tested. The remaining 16 percent “mostly found background immunity”: if antibodies were no longer present, in about two thirds of the cases the information about the pathogen was stored in memory T cells, which were called interferon gamma when they came into contact with the virus again it.

The DPU called for people to be vaccinated in order to “decisively contain the virus now”. “Against the background that up to ten percent of the population could have already had contact with the virus and are likely to have a very stable immune response, and given the fact that the virus is mutating, don’t panic,” said the university.
