Würzburg (dpa / lby) – In a Würzburg nursing home run by the Arbeiterwohlfahrt, around a quarter of the residents were infected with the corona virus. At least 49 of the 200 women and men are affected, said facility manager Robert Keppner on Tuesday. The “Main-Post” had previously reported on it. At least 15 of the 185 employees had also tested positive for Sars-CoV-2. An 85-year-old died with or from the virus.
The Hans-Sponsel-Haus has a new building and an old building. According to Keppner, only the people in the old building are affected. In the spring, however, there were many infected people in the new building.
How the virus got into the house is still unclear. There is currently a ban on visiting the home. “We test like the world champions,” said Keppner. Infected residents have been isolated.
Würzburg was one of the first corona hotspots in Bavaria in the spring. The new virus was rampant in old people’s homes. Dozens of people over the age of 80 died, including in the St. Nikolaus senior citizens’ facility run by the Bürgerpitalstiftung. Foundation director Annette Noffz told the “Main-Post” that they are trying everything “to prevent us from getting into such a situation again. Unfortunately, I know that it could happen again.”
Unlike at the beginning of the pandemic, there is now the possibility of regularly testing residents and employees. “And best of all with the particularly safe PCR tests. Only then do we have any chance of intervening at an early stage,” said Noffz.
