The new variant of the coronavirus discovered in the UK, with a higher transmission, “is not out of control,” reiterated WHO health emergency officer Michael Ryan, calling for the application of proven health measures.

“We had an R0 (virus reproduction rate, ed) much higher than 1.5 at different times during this pandemic and we checked it. This situation is therefore not, in this sense, out of control, ”said Ryan.
